About the viewer

The model is drawn the way the game builds it: a head, body, two arms and two legs, each with an outer layer that sits slightly above the base layer.

  • Outer layer: hats, jackets, sleeves and trousers. Transparent pixels show the base layer underneath.
  • Arm model: for player lookups it comes from the profile. For files it’s detected from the unused pixels next to the arms, so check it looks right.
  • Older skins (64 × 32) are converted the same way the game does, by mirroring the right arm and leg.
  • Base-layer pixels are always shown fully opaque, as they are in game.

Common questions

Is my skin file uploaded anywhere?

No. Files you open are read in your browser and never sent to a server.

Why do the arms look wrong?

The arm model probably doesn’t match the skin. Slim skins are drawn for 3-pixel arms and classic skins for 4-pixel arms. Switch the model and check which one looks right.

Why are see-through parts of my skin shown in solid colour?

Java Edition draws the base layer fully opaque, so the viewer does too. Only the outer layer can be transparent. See why parts of a skin look black.
