About this tool

The lookup asks Mojang’s official profile services for the account’s current details. Every Java Edition account has a permanent UUID. The username can change, so the UUID is the reliable way to identify a player on servers and in plugins.

  • Skin model: classic skins have 4-pixel arms, slim skins have 3-pixel arms. The model comes from the profile itself.
  • Capes: only capes on the Mojang profile are shown, such as Minecon or migration capes. Capes from mods like OptiFine live on other services.
  • Name history isn’t available. Mojang removed access to previous usernames in 2022.
  • Bedrock Edition accounts use Xbox gamertags and can’t be looked up here.

Common questions

Can I see a player’s previous usernames?

No. Mojang removed public access to name history in 2022, so only the current name can be looked up.

Does this work for Bedrock Edition players?

No. It looks up Java Edition accounts. Bedrock players are identified by their Xbox gamertag and Xbox user ID, which Mojang’s Java profile services don’t cover.

Why does a player show no skin file?

Players who never chose a custom skin use one of the default skins built into the game. Those aren’t stored on their profile, so there is no file to show.

Can it tell me whether a player is online?

No. Mojang’s profile services don’t share online status. To see who is on a particular server, use Server Status, if that server shares its player list.
