About skin files

The file you download is the skin exactly as it’s stored on the player’s Mojang profile, with nothing re-encoded or resized.

  • 64 × 64 is the current skin format, with separate textures for the left arm and leg and an outer layer for every body part.
  • 64 × 32 is the older format. The game mirrors the right arm and leg to make the left ones.
  • The model matters when you upload the skin again: choose slim for 3-pixel arms, classic for 4-pixel arms.
  • Players who never set a skin use one of the default skins built into the game, which isn’t stored on their profile.

Common questions

What size is the downloaded skin?

The file is exactly what the profile stores: 64 × 64 pixels for current skins, or 64 × 32 for skins made in the older format.

Can I download Bedrock or Marketplace skins?

No. Only skins set on a Java Edition profile can be downloaded. Bedrock character creator items and Marketplace skins aren’t stored there.

How do I use a downloaded skin on my own account?

Upload the PNG on your profile page at minecraft.net or in the Minecraft Launcher, and pick the same arm model (slim or classic) the original skin uses.
