Stack sizes
| Stacks to | Examples |
|---|---|
| 64 | Blocks, ingots, food, arrows, redstone and most other items |
| 16 | Ender pearls, snowballs, eggs, signs, hanging signs, banners, empty buckets, armour stands, honey bottles, written books |
| 1 | Tools, weapons, armour, potions, filled buckets, enchanted books, boats, minecarts, beds, saddles, cakes, music discs, totems of undying, bundles and shulker boxes |
Since Java Edition 1.20.5, data packs and commands can set an item’s maximum stack size to anything from 1 to 99. A server or map may therefore stack items differently.

Notes
- The player inventory figure counts the 27 storage slots and 9 hotbar slots. Armour and off-hand slots only take matching items, so they aren’t included.
- Shulker boxes can’t hold shulker boxes. A double chest full of filled shulker boxes is the largest common storage unit.
- Bundles hold up to one stack’s worth of mixed items in a single slot.
- Leftovers need a slot. 65 items that stack to 64 need two slots, even though the second holds one item.
For any other count, the Stack Calculator works out stacks, shulker boxes and chests.
