Server Icon Maker
Crop and resize any image to the 64 × 64 server-icon.png a Minecraft server shows in the server list.
PNG, JPEG, WebP or GIF, up to 12 MB. The icon is made in your browser and the image is never uploaded.
Drag the image to move the square, or use the sliders below.
Turn this off for pixel art, so the squares stay sharp.

What the server expects
A Java Edition server looks for a file called server-icon.png in the same folder as server.properties. It must be a PNG image of exactly 64 × 64 pixels. Anything else is refused: the server logs Couldn’t load server icon and starts without one.
- Cropping: the square you choose is scaled to 64 × 64. Starting from a larger image keeps more detail than enlarging a small one.
- Transparency: PNG transparency is kept. See-through parts show the dark background of the server list.
- Where it shows: next to the server name and the server list message in the multiplayer list. Players see it once they have added or refreshed the server.
- Nothing is uploaded: the image is read, cropped and saved by your browser. It never reaches this site.
Putting the icon on your server
- Download the file and keep the name
server-icon.png. - Put it in the server folder, next to
server.propertiesand the world folder. - Restart the server. The icon is read at startup.
- In the game, refresh the server in the multiplayer list to see the new icon.
Hosting panels often have an upload or file manager for the same folder. Bedrock Dedicated Server has no server icon of its own; icons for Bedrock servers come from the server list service instead.
Common questions
What size does a server icon have to be?
Exactly 64 × 64 pixels, as a PNG file called server-icon.png. The server refuses any other size: it writes Couldn’t load server icon in the console and starts without one.
Where do I put the file?
In the server folder, next to server.properties and the world folder, then restart the server. See the server.properties reference for what else lives there.
Why doesn’t the icon show up in game?
The server reads the file at startup, so it needs a restart. After that, refresh the server in the multiplayer list, because the game keeps the last answer it got. If it still doesn’t appear, check the name and that the file really is a 64 × 64 PNG.
Can I use an animated GIF?
No. A server icon is a single still image. If you open a GIF here, its first frame is used.
